There are many, many things I miss about teaching. I loved my job almost every day. Mondays through Fridays were pretty great. But the part that I hated, the worst part of the week, was always Sunday evenings. The anticipation of the return to work and the mounds of prep work that needed to be done before that first bell made it nearly impossible for me to relax on my "day of rest." I finally gave up trying to enjoy Sunday nights, and spent every one out of the house, either with friends (to distract myself), or at school, working.
Now that I'm staying home, I cherish every Sunday evening. I prefer to leave our Mondays open just for the peace of mind it gives me on Sunday nights to lie down in bed and think, "I don't have anything I have to do tomorrow." There may be cleaning, laundry, cooking, or shopping to do. But if we feel like it, like we did today, we can spend all morning doing this.
I love my job.
