Serious about reading

...friday, february 10, 2012...day 243...

Luke has been very serious about reading lately.  All day long he loves to be read to.  I'm not really complaining, but as I don't trust my son around paper books yet, we are totally stuck reading the same 15 board books over and over again.  Repetition like this is great for Luke. Repetition like this is B-O-R-I-N-G for Mommy.

Last night we were babysitting Caleb and Sierra, who are also quite addicted to books. Reading fresh material for a change - what a treat!  I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Here's my little man concentrating very hard on helping me wash the cupboards today.  He was SUCH a great helper, until he dunked both hands into the hot bucket of soapy water and we had to put an end to his helping mommy for the day.

Kid free weekend

...february 3-5, 2012...days 236-236...

This weekend Sam and I, along with 4 friends, inaugurated our family cottage as a winter resort. It was the first time that our new place has hosted anyone in the snowy months.  Although there was little snow, the weather outside was still cold, and we were happy to have plenty of cozy couches surrounding a roaring fire, where we could enjoy the pleasure of doing whatever we wanted (read: no toddlers to manage) for 48 straight hours.  It was wonderful.

Our summer swimming grounds look a little different this time of year
They surprised me with a lovely birthday cake!

Luke meanwhile enjoyed a fabulous weekend with his cousins, Cody and Allie.  We spent a few hours with them on Sunday afternoon and were able to see the kind of fun things he'd been doing all weekend.
Here they are enjoying their new swing set

Thanks again Brian and Emily for watching our little man!

Birthday freebies

...thursday, february 2, 2012...day 235...

It turns out that birthdays can be a bit lonely when you're a stay at home mom and your child is too young to give you any extra attention at all (or even just stop whining for five minutes) on your big day.  So I had to go out on the town and create my own fun.  Being on a tight budget this year, I decided to try and score as much free stuff I could today.  And I'd say I did pretty well.

Stop #1: Free breakfast at Denny's

Luke was very excited about Dennys because they had CRAYONS

Stop #2: Free lunch at Noodles & Company

Stop #3: Free dinner at Pietro's

Followed by a free movie at the theater... okay well that's only because we had a gift card.  But still!

Happy birthday to me!

I came across a video this morning that Sam and Rebekah must have taken last week.  What is so fun about falling down?

...monday, january 30, 2012...day 232...

Yes, I know, I am way behind in my blogging. Honestly, it has been difficult to find something new to take a picture of every day.   I just think, does anyone really care to see another picture of Luke doing something silly around the house? But those are the moments that I enjoy the best, so I guess I'll keep blogging about them. Enjoying the little things is supposed to be what this blog is all about.   These little snapshots into our life may be boring to others, but they are a reflection of the things that bring me the most joy.  These are the things that interrupt me in the middle of the day's tasks and make me giggle like a little kid.  And really, isn't that what being a stay at home mom is all about?

I think that they were pretending it was a car, but I'm not really sure.  Either way this box is proving to be a pretty sweet toy.

Under the couch

Luke got sidetracked looking for lost toys when he realized that he could fit under the couch as well.
