I found this tricycle at a garage sale.  I know Luke is too young to pedal yet, but since it was only a dollar, I bought it.  He saw it in the garage this afternoon and had to have a go.

We. Have. A. Cottage!

...july 24, 2011...day 40...

Every good Michigander knows the truth. The ultimate sign of accomplishment in this life is a cottage on the lake.  I've spent most of my life feeling inferior to those possessors of waterfront Utopia.  Now I can finally say that we have arrived. We actually have our very own cottage!  Okay technically my dad owns it, but honestly no one's concerned about the details here. The point is that from now on, on (almost) any day, I can look over at Sam and say, "Honey, I'm sick of this mundane world and the concerns of our dreary lives. Let's forget our troubles and go to the lake."

True Michiganian bliss :)

I saw someone selling "shoe clips" online and got an idea.  I tried it with a couple of H&M hair clips I already had.

 I am in love. :)

(If you think this post is ridiculous, then well, you just don't understand.)   :)

Giddy Up, Hissie

I finally got a few more pictures from last weekend.  Here's Luke enjoying riding his"hissie".  He makes us sing a giddy up song every time he gets on.  Of course wearing my cowboy hat was extra fun.

Fun Times with Simon

I spent some time this morning catching up my dear friend Laura.  We had a surprisingly easy time talking as normal adults (aka not being interrupted every thirty seconds) as our boys played happily together. Although Simon wouldn't smile for the camera, he graciously let Luke play with all of his toys, and even dealt with a few infamous hug-tackles.  Yes, Simon is 6 months older, but can you tell whose got three pounds on who?

Happy birthday, Simon!

Language Lover

...july 21, 2011...day 37...

We've been having a small language explosion over the past few weeks, which has been tons of fun.  Luke enjoys repeating words after us as he tries to pronounce sounds he has not quite yet mastered.  Baba for ball, hissie for horsie, and sheesh for shoes are a few of his favorites.  We have also introduced a few more language signs to help us interpret his (seemingly constant) whining.  "Help" is a sign we made up, and "please" comes right out of the American Sign Language, although Luke uses two hands for extra effect. :)  Today I got a couple of shots of him saying our new favorite phrase.

I was looking through videos of Luke, and I cannot believe this was our little man only a year ago! That's his cuz Allie next to him. What cuties.

A Nice Bully

Luke's new favorite activity is giving hugs, which the adults in his life LOVE!!  Nothing is sweeter than a tight embrace from our little toddler.

Now we have to teach Luke that, well-meaning or not, his affections are less than well-received by 6-month-olds.  I think that Matthew was bulldozed with hugs about ten times today.  I happened to get a picture of the worst one.

Sorry, little guy!

What's more fun than banging on the keys with your best bud?

And they only paused ONE TIME to hit each other during this whole activity. How sweet.

Working at the Car Wash...Yeah...

...july 17, 2011...day 33...

This was Luke's first car wash experience, and he was completely fascinated with the whole process.  He spent 10 minutes dipping a sponge in and out of the bucket of soapy water.  Hopefully that stuff's not harmful to swallow, because I'm sure he tried it.  Then he discovered the running hose and, well, chaos ensued.  Every time I tried to get close to him to take it from him, he would turn his body (and thus the hose) towards me, and I would get soaked.  I was laughing, so of course he thought it was a game and kept the hose pointed right at me. Finally I gave up trying to rescue him and went inside to get the camera instead.

Tonight he also recited his newest word about 50 times - "wawa" ! :)
